Belmont and Edgware 1st XI's disappointing start to the season continued as they were beaten by 50 runs against
Kensington and Chelsea in Chiswick.
Captain Warren Averbuch won the toss and decided to bowl first in BECC's second Middlesex League game of the season. Averbuch and Jonathan Evans opened the bowling, with Evans picking up the opener early on thanks to a terrific caught and bowled effort.
Averbuch (2-53) bowled well and picked up a couple of wickets leading upto the drinks break.
Richie Wienburg (3-29) and David Kaplan (2-20) replaced the opening pair and were instantly rewarded for their tight bowling.
Recent signing Simon Taylor took over from Wienburg and immediately took the remaining two wickets, finishing on 2-20. Belmont and Edgware bowled very well to restrict the opposition to 157 all out and were hoping to capitalise on their hard work in the field.
The BECC reply did not get off to the most promising of starts and they were 15-3 after five overs. A steady partnership from Evans and Matlin had pushed the score to 55-4 before Evans fell for 26.
Belmont were given a glimmer of hope when Wienburg came into bat. He and Lawrence Jeffries put on a terrific 65-run partnership for the ninth wicket, dispatching the ball all over the ground. Wienburg eventually fell for a very 45 with Jeffries following soon after.
Belmont were eventually all out for 116, losing by 50 runs.
