Strolling down the first at Dyrham Park what seems like only a few months ago, you could sense there was something special about Laetitia Beck. She oozed star quality.
She took big, confident strides in pursuit of her booming drive that day and I’m delighted she has achieved her lifetime ambition of making it to the pro tour at such a young age.
Indeed, having met Shahar Peer and Lee Korzits, Beck has all the credentials to join the list of Israeli sporting greats. A medallist at the 2009 Maccabiah Games, she has Rio 2016 on her ‘to-do’ list and I’m sure it won’t be too long before she’s rubbing shoulders with the likes of Michelle Wie.
* Oakwood B manager Jason Stein has described Haydon Davidson as the “best thing since sliced bread”. Speaking after his team’s 4-1 demolition of L’Equipe, Stein said: “If we had this little Yorkshireman all season, the league would look a lot different. Effervescent and a pain for defenders, he was unplayable.”
With his big guns back from their travels, Stein was in no doubt that it was “the best performance of the season and akin to Chanucah and Shavuot coming at once”.
With his team having an extended winter break, Stein is looking to forward to a team-bonding session ahead of a promotion push in the new year. He went on to say: “I’m taking the lads away to Baden Baden over Chanucah as I don’t want them at home binging on latkes and doughnuts.”
* I’ve got a lot of time for Boca Jewniors manager Gabriel John who always gives the opposition credit when they deserve it. Commenting on his team’s 8-0 defeat against London Rovers, John said: “Ultimately, in my 21 years in MGBSFL, that’s one of the hardest defeats to take, due to the nature.
"I have to credit London Rovers for a good performance, especially Avi Markiewicz who is soaring with confidence and has a real eye for goal.”
* Hendon FC chairman Simon Lawrence hopes his club’s ‘pay-what-you-want’ entry initiative will help drum up a big crowd for the derby clash against Wingate & Finchley over the festive period.
With the top six levels of English football in action on both Boxing Day and December 28, the Ryman League Premier tussle, sandwiched in between, looks set to be a real thriller.
* I promised my Letchmore team a mention if they won the Excel under-10 Cup, and win it they did. So well done Bailey, Eytan, Ilan, Jack, Jacob, Jake, Gabriel, Louis and Sylvan. Jake scored the goal of the game, similar to Gazza’s effort against Scotland. But even better. And the sensational free-kick converted by Louis will live long in the memory.
