Look out, Sir Bob Geldof. The Chief Rabbi is to make a live recording of his recently released CD, Israel — Home of Hope, in the original studio used to record Live Aid.
The CD, recorded and released to coincide with Israel’s 60th anniversary, was part-produced by Trevor Horn, who produced Live Aid and has worked with Paul McCartney, Seal, Rod Stewart and Frankie Goes To Hollywood. He arranged three tracks on the album, which features reggae star Matisyahu, the Shabbaton Choir and a selection of Israeli pop musicians.
Later this month, the Chief Rabbi, Sir Jonathan Sacks, together with the chazan of Western Marble Arch Synagogue, Reverend Lionel Rosenfeld, the Shabbaton Choir and children from the Moriah Jewish Day School in Middlesex, will spend a day in the West London studio recording a new version of the song Oseh Shalom, taken from the CD. Chazans Shimon Craimer, of the Riverdale Jewish Centre in New York, and Jonny Turgel, chazan of Edgware United, who sing on the track, will lend their voices to the recording, possibly with the Chief Rabbi himself.
The song will be released as a live visual entry on homeofhope.co.uk, the website set up by the Chief Rabbi for the CD.
