Daniel and Juliette had dinner and lots of laughs at kosher restaurant TukTuk in Golders Green
March 20, 2025 16:45Pre-date jitters?
No, although it felt a little strange meeting someone I knew very little about and whose photo I hadn’t even seen.
Your first impression?
The first thing I always look at is someone’s hands – that tells me how well they look after themselves. Daniel ticked that box.
What were you hoping for from the evening?
Some nice food and some good company.
Did the conversation flow?
Yes, considering we were on a completely blind date.
Did you discuss matters Jewish?
We talked about religion, our levels of observance.
Did you discuss matters Israeli?
Only that his ex wife was Israeli.
What was your favourite TukTuk dish?
Chicken pad Thai. It was very good indeed.
Would Daniel get on with your friends?
I think that he probably would.
Did you discover people in common?
We didn’t get that far although he said he didn’t have many friends in north-west London, where I live.
Did sparks fly?
Sadly not.
Any no-nos?
The distance between between our homes. Daniel lives in Surrey and I live north-west of London.
Plans to see each other again?
Nothing was discussed at the time.
Daniel in three words?
Polite, funny, charming.
What do you think Daniel
thought of you?
I think he thought that we got on well.
Pre-date jitters?
No pre date jitters
Your first impression?
Attractive, nice smile, smartly dressed.
What were you hoping for from the evening?
To meet someone with whom I connected emotionally and intellectually over good food and interesting stories.
Did the conversation flow?
Yes. We spoke about family, work, sleeping habits, going to Paris, parenthood – and Gary the photographer and the other customers.
Did you discuss matters Jewish?
A bit, mostly in terms of upbringing of children and family backgrounds.
Did you discuss matters Israeli?
I mentioned that I’d been to Israel, been to a kibbutz, had family there, that kind of thing. But we didn’t talk about anything political.
What was your favourite TukTuk dish?
I had the lamb curry, which was very tender and had just the right level of spiciness.
Would Juliette get on with your friends?
Yes. She’s very confident and articulate.
Did you discover people in common?
No. I’m not from the north-west London bubble (shock, horror).
Did sparks fly?
In a word, no.
Any no-nos?
None
Plans to see each other again?
No. I don’t feel she wanted me to ask for her number. But you never know what the future holds.
Juliette in three words?
Determined (her own word), principled and driven.
What do you think Juliette thought of you?
That I have an unusual job.
