Cotton on to denim

Denim is a godsend of a fabric. We all have at least one piece of denim clothing hanging in our wardrobe - no matter what your age, style or shape. Although denim is the most versatile of fabrics, the denim skirt can cause many style dilemmas. Get the wrong length and you'll be looking more frumpy than yummy mummy. I see this mistake time and time again.

First and foremost I highly recommend you shop for a denim skirt in- store rather than online. There are so many styles that look dreadful online but surprisingly pleasing in the flesh. Getting it right is crucial especially to avoid gathered fabric and baggy waistbands/tight hip combos.

It's impossible to avoid denim on the high street and in designer stores. The choice is endless; mini, midi, maxi, A-line, full, straight. The list goes on.

Practically you want your skirt to be comfortable. I've learnt the hard way, I have a gorgeous 70s inspired denim skirt that I love dearly but I need to swing my legs 90 degrees or yank my skirt up just so I can get into a car. (Not ideal when you're in a rush for work in the mornings).
