All summer long I’ve felt not only the heat, but also the pressure to live up to a hot girl summer. Summer is the time of year where single life is celebrated and it is considered by most to be the dating season. The sun is shining, barbeques cook up a social feast and if you want to go to a festival every weekend the options are — Covid permitting — plentiful.
Most summers Tel Aviv beach is where lots of young, single Jews can be spotted, but this summer has been a little different. It’s been tricky to travel abroad, and we’ve had to squeeze in one whole year of weddings into the summer months, which is already pretty chocka at the best of times. Not to mention the belated birthday parties, engagement drinks and basically any delayed event which happened to land this summer.
So we had our ingredients for a hot girl summer. Right? As a singleton, trying to fit in a holiday, manage my dating life and find some solo time was a mission this summer. To be real for a hot second there are still those of us floating in the single pool who may not have felt like it lived up to their summer expectations. Looking back on the last few months, did I have enough summer adventures? How many summer romances did I have to write home about?
As we head into autumn not only does the weather change, but also our outlook on dating. Autumn is the season of serenity. There is no pressure to be happy, to be social or to be dating. We are in this awkward in between phase where we’ve said goodbye to summer and (thankfully) the stress of sweating on a date has melted away.
