What to wear for a summer in the office

articlemain

Scorching temperatures are hard to deal with in the UK. It's not just our homes that are built to insulate; it's our wardrobes too.

Finding the right transitional pieces that will take you from home to your workplace under a scorching sun without you breaking out in a sweat is no easy task.

But a few key pieces will see you on your way to stylish summer dressing without needing to turn up the air conditioning.

● The shirtdress will be the most useful garment of the season. It gets an extra tick if it's lightweight and softly structured.

● Take your hem up an inch or five and give your legs the airing that they deserve on a hot summer's day.

● A cropped trouser or jumpsuit with a tailored finish will make sure you're chic without being too overdressed for the weather.

● Stacked and flat-heeled sandals and shoes will be your feet's best friend on a hot summer's day. They can be feminine while being more easy-going than stilettos on hot feet and swollen ankles.

● Swap your heavyweight fabrics for linens and soft cottons that let your skin breathe. Look for kimono-style wraps in light fabrics for a modern take on the jacket.

● Avoid flashing too much flesh; double exposure of your top and bottom halfs is a fashion faux pas - especially for the office.
