Velvet crush

articlemain

It may take you back to a 70s disco vibe but in fact velvet is having a fashion comeback for day and night. The difference? Brushed not crushed is on trend with an air of ladylike luxe and timeless elegance adorned on clothes, bags, shoes and even accessories. Unlike leather, it's fellow "winter" fabric, velvet is tactile and softly seductive to touch, it conjures up feelings of warmth and comfort, perfect for chilly days and nights. Sling a velvet smoking jacket on top of any outfit for a sharp masculine finish or for a more feminine look simply mix up soft textures - velvet being one of them or pair with denim for a day-to-night look.

Play it safe with colours, dark is best. Black, navy and burgundy are the most flattering shades especially as velvet is a tough fabric to wear because it doesn't have much "give".

Finally, add some fine gold accessories (never silver) to channel further decadence and glamour. Think Bianca Jagger in her heyday and you've got the look!
