Would-be visitors to Scotland can now take a virtual journey through the country, without leaving home, to whet their appetites further.
A new augmented reality (AR) app called Step into Scotland has been launched as part of the country’s Scotland is Now campaign, showcasing its landscapes, attractions and also locals revealing what they love about living and working in the country.
You could virtually drive the twisting North Cost 500 route on a motorbike, paramotor over Ben Nevis, discover the country’s whisky heritage or marvel at Edinburgh Castle, with the app available on both Android and Apple.

The ‘Whey Aye’ wheel
Newcastle is set to get Europe’s tallest observation wheel, according to plans from developers, set on the city’s Quayside.
At 140 metres, the ‘Whey Aye’ would be almost five metres taller than the London Eye (left), and include a world record-breaking 10,000 square metre LED digital screen in the centre.
The World Wheel Company is set to submit its planning application later this year.
Cheers! Gin on tour
The Great British Gin Festival is touring the UK this summer, running at 15 locations in England and Wales between June 23 and November 3.
There will be more than 100 different gins from around the world plus cocktail demonstrations, live music, talks from producers and a virtual reality gin distillery – not to mention 25ml samples to take home.
Tickets cost £15.49-£20, including a Gin Bible with tasting notes.
Hard Rock Hotels come to the UK
The UK is getting its first Hard Rock Hotel, with The Cumberland Hotel at London’s Marble Arch reopening as part of the brand.
With its own impressive rock’n’roll history — Jimi Hendrix gave his last interview here, and musicians from Bob Dylan and Diana Ross to Stevie Wonder and Madonna have all stayed here — it will also include a Hard Rock Café and shop.
The hotel, one of only four Hard Rock Hotels in Europe, including Tenerife (left) and Ibiza, is due to have around 1,000 bedrooms and suites, plus two bars and live music performances.
Music fans will also be able to spot around 100 pieces of rock memorabilia on show. Double rooms will start from £250 per night.
