A daughter’s exploration of her father’s plight as a German refugee returning to Berlin after the war, will be performed this month by a Liverpool church’s amateur dramatics group.
Ruth Barnett hopes the play What Price for Justice? will make audiences reflect on the effect of war on ordinary people. Her father Robert Michaelis, a Jewish judge living in Berlin with his non-Jewish wife and two children, fled to Shanghai when Nazi persecution began. The children were sent to England on the Kindertransport but his wife was trapped in Berlin. After the war, his attemps to resume life in Berlin are all met with disappointment.
Barnett's hope is that the play will eventually be performed in London.
The play is being performed on from May 9 to 13. Tickets can be reserved by emailing rutheclb@gmail.com
