Shechter torn between Baggies and Bundesliga

articlemain

West Bromwich Albion have offered Hapoel Tel Aviv striker Itay Shechter a four-year contract worth £600,000 a year.

The Israeli international and his agent, Ronen Katsav, were at the Hawthorns on Monday where WBA manager Roy Hodgson told Shechter that he saw him forming a strike partnership with top-scorer Peter Odemwingie.

Shechter has also received similar offers from Bundesliga outfits Kaiserslautern and Hannover and he has told friends that he feels better suited to the German League. Kaiserslautern were scheduled to send representatives to Israel this week.

Shechter, 24, scored 26 goals for Hapoel in 2009/10 but has not played since December after an operation on a dislocated shoulder.

Hapoel are asking £2 million for the player who impressed in the Champions League. The club also look set to part company with midfielder Eran Zehavi who has agreed personal terms with Palermo.

Bolton Wanderers have confirmed that Tamir Cohen will leave the club.

We understand that the midfielder is keen to stay in England, although recently-crowned Israeli champions Maccabi Haifa are keen to bolster their squad ahead of next season's Champions League campaign and have targeted him.

Tal Ben Haim's future remains unclear. The defender is keen to stay at Portsmouth but does not feature in manager Steve Cotterill's plans.
