Aron Sharpe believes Wingate & Finchley have pulled off a major coup after appointing Keith Rowland as manager.
Rowland has taken charge following the departure of Simon Lane who left the club by mutual consent after three consecutive defeats.
"I am more than surprised that Keith was available,” said Wingate chairman Aron Sharpe.
Rowland earned 19 caps in defence for Northern Ireland and also played for Bournemouth, Coventry City, West Ham United and QPR before coaching roles at Aveley and Braintree.
"Keith should be coaching at a much higher level with his CV and his ability,” said Sharpe.
"I have to look after the best interests of the club and ensure that we continue to punch above our weight. I believe that we have made an appointment that will benefit the club and I look forward to working with Keith as do all of the directors and members."
