A solid batting performance enabled Salford Blue Jays to come away with victory against basement battlers at Cheetham Hill.

Salford won the toss and chose to bat, which looked an excellent decision as they raced to 70 for the loss of just one wicket within nine overs. However, an excellent catch by Daniel Paul saw Indy dismissed for 18 and when Kaushal was out LBW for 39, Salford needed to consolidate.

A watchful partnership between Josh Dansky and Rafi Dines saw the Blue Jays to the 20-over break but when Dines was bowled shortly after, it was left to Dansky to shepherd the inning through the remaining overs. This he did with aplomb, being eventually dismissed for 38 as looked to hit out.

Moshe Harris gave a brief cameo for 11 before being bowled by Daniel Paul (8 overs 2 for 19) for his second wicket.

Shimon Harris and Adam Schogger saw out Salford’s remaining overs to finish on 170-9.

South started in more watchful fashion as Salford’s bowlers, Schogger and Yasir, kept a tight line. Dave Burns made the breakthrough with Shimon Harris stumping Robinson. Coventry then fell to a ‘Statue of Liberty’ catch by captain Jonny Wineberg at square leg off Kaushal before Ben Mesrie holed out for 25. At the break as the match was finely poised with South at 81-3.

A few lusty hits by Iqbal looked as though he could turn the match in South’s favour before Adam Schogger (7-1-30) returned and forced him to mistime a catch to Indy at cover.

Pickles then fell for 26 to Indy’s third catch of the innings off Kaushal and when Harris took a second stumping also off Kaushal (6-3-23) it sparked a South collapse.

Burns took the last three wickets to end with figures of 6.3-4-26 as South could only reach 131 all out in the 34th over.
