Sachkov wins kickboxing world title

Yulia Sachkov of Israel was crowned world champion in the women’s under-52 kilogram K-1 style competition in Sarajevo.

“This is a dream come true,” Sachkov, 21, from Haifa, told Israel Radio after defeating her Czech opponent in the final.

“In the past, things have sometimes gone wrong but in this tournament everything worked out perfectly.”

Three other Israelis returned home from the tournament with silver medals. Shir Cohen, 19, was runner-up in the women’s U52kg KL style competition, as was Daniella Pashayev, 18, in the women’s U48kg LK style category.

Or Moshe took silver in the men’s U67kg K-1 style competition, Or Moshe produced a series of strong displays before he was defeated in the final by a Ukrainian opponent. 

Israel Kickboxing Federation chief Hani Sachs said: “This is a great achievement for these young sportspeople. The results reflect how hard we have worked and the excellence of our coaches who have formed an outstanding team.”
