Promising signs as great Scots go it alone

Taking part as Team Scotland for the first time, the 13-man delegation are in medal contention after week one of the Maccabiah Games.

In table tennis, Masters players Brian Wright, Jeremy Banks and Mark Georgevic started well, whitewashing opponents from Team GB and Canada. He was scheduled to play in the semi-finals on Thursday.

Zachary Cohen and Samuel Georgevic lost their first two matches in the junior event.

In Masters 50+ golf, Bernard Cohen, David Edelman, David Shenkin and Barry Glekin were fifth are the first round. Scotland head of delegation David Shenkin described the display as “more than respectable”.
