Northern football team of the year 2013

articlemain

It has been a stand-out season for several stars. James Masters selects his northern team of the year

- DAN GARMAN (Republic of Flixton) – the safest pair of hands in the MJSL, on top of having scored 24 goals, some while playing outfield, this season. Not bad for a goalkeeper

- STEVEN BERKE (Leeds Maccabi 1st) – a rock at the heart of the defence, helped guide Leeds to their first ever non-Jewish League title

- ADAM TAUBER (Republic of Flixton) – one of the signings of the season, Tauber scored 15 goals from defence as Republic cruised to the MJSL treble

- MIKE STRATTON (South Manchester 1st) – an integral part of South’s success in winning the Manchester Accountants League and reaching the Peter Morrison Trophy final

- MARK BELL (Republic of Flixton) – vital part of the Republic defence which conceded just seven league goals all season. A class act

- PAUL HARRIS (Haroldeans) – voted for by a whole host of opposition players and managers, Harris is one of the leading midfielders in the MJSL

- RICHARD BLACK (Leeds Maccabi 1st) – captain marvel proved an inspiration for Leeds after dragging them from depths of despair to the league crown

- JOHNNY LEWIS (Republic of Flixton) – the MJSL Player of the Year enjoyed an outstanding season in midfield, dominating games for Republic

- HARVEY KAYE (South Manchester SC 1st) - a red card in the Peter Morrison Trophy wasn’t his finest moment, but it failed to overshadow another impressive campaign

- ROB JACOBS (Republic of Flixton) – the MJSL top-scorer, with 30 league goals to his name, was one of the main reasons for the club’s
success

- JAKE KELLY (Manchester Maccabi 2nd) – won the Ray Mendel MJSL Young Player of the Year following an excellent campaign which culminated in his selection for the Team GB under-18 Maccabiah squad

- MANAGER OF THE YEAR: IAN SELWYN (Leeds Maccabi 1st) - led the club to their first ever league title by winning the Leeds Sunday Alliance Premier Division, while also guiding his team to two cup semi-finals
