Maccabiah stars sparkle

Paul Freedman, Charlie Sassienie, Darren Sassienie and Russ Snipper won the Maccabi GB Tenpin Bowling League title.

Playing under the name I Don't Care Really, the team held off the challenge of Maurice Baum, Steven Caplin and Geoff Isaacs, with captain Snipper finishing the season with the high series, bowling a 806 with handicap.

Paul Hart won the season's average buster, although special mention goes to newcomer Paul Dobkin who led for a large part of the season before a late surge from Maccabiah veteran.

Newcomer Russell Shear put in an eye-catching performance at the MGB Tenpin Bowling tournament. He claimed the overall prize, as well as the Freddie Loberman Memorial Trophy for the best high game after registering a brilliant 267.

Fran Da Costa finished second and she was also presented with a trophy for her services to the sport, with Johnny Mervish finishing third.

Ian Davis marked his return to action with victory in the scratch knockout stage, while Swedish bowler Patrik Goldberg collecting the runners-up prize for the second year in a row.

Davis won the first game 207-192 before Goldberg hit back in the second 191-149. But Davis found some form in the decider to win 189-168. Richard Kneip took third place.

Craig Grant beat Johnny Mervish in win the Handicap, while Howard Panas pipped 2013 winner Andrew Brill to finish third.
