Swiss champions Basle stand between Maccabi Tel Aviv and a place in the group stages of the Champions League.
Maccabi will travel to Switzerland for the away leg on August 18/19, with the return in Israel a week later.
They were indebted to Israel striker Eran Zahavi earlier in the week following his double that helped them overturn a first leg deficit against Viktoria Plzen.
Maccabi's sporting director Jordi Cryuff says the club will be looking to bring in new signings to boost their hopes of qualification.
"We need to strengthen the team and we need a bigger squad," he said. "We are going to have a lot of games so 100 per cent we need to bring players.
"It was always the plan to bring players, but for sure now we have to sign new players. We have identified our objectives a long time ago and now it is a question of trying to make the best deals and bring them in as soon as possible."
