Maccabi Masters League review: February 1

articlemain

North London Raiders edged closer to retaining their title with a 5-3 win over Brady A in Division One of the Maccabi Masters League.

Brady led twice, through Scott Warren and Gavin Sherman, but, in a match playing in cold and windy conditions, NLR hit back in style via David Lederman, Danny Daggers, Kevin Lotzof, Richard Sacks and Rob Cohen. Sherman a second for Brady, but it NLR's day.

Draw specialists Scrabble Harmen earned another point courtesy of a strike from Steven Moss against HMH. Neil Kochane registered for HMH in a tough mid-table battle.

Player-manager Kochane burst through the middle to give HMH an interval lead, but Scrabble turned up the pressure after the break and they were rewarded when Moss equalised with 10 minutes remaining, scoring from Stephan Simons’ square ball, and making it six draws in 10 games for Scrabble.

In Division Two, Maccabi London Lions remain firm title favourites after Jason Harris (2) and Danny Schindler earned them a 3-1 victory over Hendon Harriers, for whom Jon Nesbitt scored a consolation.

EDRS Stonegrove maintained their hopes with a 3-0 win over Glenthorne, Phil Silver giving them a first-half advantage, and Tony Platman and Ian Leader securing the points in the second half.

But Zig Zag Marshside’s title aspirations took a blow as they could only manage a 2-2 draw with Brady B, with goals from debutant Darren Young and Barry Silkman, whilst Brady twice came from behind with strikes from Melvyn Harris and Anthony Snow.
