Maccabi Manchester Yellow were crowned champions of the Manchester Jewish Soccer League after Leeds Maccabi suffered a dramatic last day defeat, failing to secure the point they needed to clinch the title.

With Leeds needing a point for the title, a strong Maccabi Masters team did their fellow Maccabi Yellow the biggest favour of all by beating the Yorkshiremen 4-0 at Brooklands.

Masters opened the scoring after 10 minutes when Jacob Huller fired home.

With minimal attacks at the other end and Leeds looking jittery at the back, it was no surprise when Morgan Yardley headed home a second leaving an uphill struggle for the visitors.

Maccabi made it 3-0 on 35 minutes when an excellent through ball to Marcus Buchanan was slotted home.

The second half was a more even affair with several chances falling to Leeds. There showed renewed desire and heart but Maccabi stood firm and on 70 minutes a magnificent strike from fully 40 yards saw Jordan Kay lob the Leeds keeper Reece Levy to seal the 4-0 victory to leave the onlooking Maccabi Yellow team celebrating before collecting the league trophy.

Ben Gould of South Manchester received the MJSL top-scorer award with a final tally of 30 goals, bettering last season’s 26 and retaining the Steve Blackston Trophy. Ian Selwyn of Leeds Maccabi was presented with the Irving Basso Trophy for Manager of the Year.
