CHESMAN LEAGUE DIVISION ONE

AFC GREENBOW 0 MANCHESTER MACCABI 1st 6

The first goal was from the unlikeliest of sources, when Jordan Kaye’s 25-yard rocket went in off the upright for what we’re told is the second best goal of his career. Kaye was handed the number 4 shirt in pre-season and, as manager Michael Sacks says, "he has done everything to keep it".

“I tell Jordan every week to play simple," said Sacks. "He knows what he’s good at and what he’s not as good at. So when I saw him lining up to shoot, I turned away – I thought it was going to hit row Z. Then I heard gasps of disbelief from the sideline!”

Maccabi doubled their lead through Sam Hatton, before Greg Jacobs slotted home from outside the area with a beautifully placed curler. Hatton added his second just before the break to see Maccabi in four goals to the good.

Maccabi started the second half in a similar way, passing the ball quickly and remaining patient. And it was the Scotsman Jacobs who got his second and Maccabi’s fifth – a fantastic solo goal that Archie Gemmill would have been proud of.

Jake Kelly completed the scoring, fresh off a relaxation retreat in Marbella.

Maccabi manager Michael Sacks said: "We looked sharp today. We were patient in possession and clinical in the final third – just what we have been asking the boys in pre-season.

“A clean sheet is a massive plus too and we’ll look to build on those foundations in the coming weeks.

“As Steven Gerrard famously said in that huddle, ‘We go again at Norwich Ardwick’ and look to continue our good start to the season.”
