Leinsky banned for six months

articlemain

Olga Lenskiy has had her 100 meter record struck off the books and has been suspended for six months for failing to take a drugs test.

In April, Lenskiy ran 10om in 11.42 seconds clipping three hundreds of a second off the record set by Esther Roth in the 1972 Munich Olympics.

But Lenskiy, 21, failed to turn up for a drugs test the following morning, claiming she had flown to Ukraine to visit her sick grandmother. She did not return to Israel for three weeks.

Lenskiy protested her innocence after the sentence handed down by the Israel Olympic Committee's Anti-Drugs Committee. She said: "I have never taken any banned substance before a competition."
