Joel Nathan’s Junior Football team booked their place in the gold medal match at the 13th European Maccabi Games with a 6-0 demolition of Spain on Friday.
Strikes from Zachary Collins, Michael Kenley, Connor Perlmutter, Scott Oldstein, Sami Zerovabeli and Stanley Offord saw the GB boys make it three out of three to set up a meeting with Austria or Germany in the final on Tuesday.
A one-sided contest saw GB march into a 4-0 lead at half time. It could have been five had David Seitler’s brilliant chip not hit the crossbar.
They posed a threat at set-pieces with Offord nonchalantly nodding home a free header from a corner.
A rampant GB team looked like scoring every time they went forward and victory pleased manager Nathan.
“It was a case of beating what was in front of us,” he said. “It was a great result and great to keep a clean sheet, but to be honest, Spain were not the best.
GB have accumulated six bookings so Nathan and coach Scott Shulton will look to shuffle their pack ahead of a final group match against Denmark.
“We have to be careful,” said Nathan. “Today was a totally different game to yesterday. We talked a lot about shape and formations.
"Scott has watched Spain and we knew their keeper was weak and we had the pace to beat them.
"They are a great bunch of boys who know how to keep the ball."
"We have one game left before the final but I think we think the boys can still step it up against better opposition and they definitely have more to give."
