Jets propelled to League title

articlemain

North West London Jets under-13s clinched the Excel Academy League title courtesy of a late goal against Hampstead Harriers to snatch the win by 1-0.

Hampstead Harriers began the game on the front foot, dominating possession but were unable to break down the NWLJ defence.

NWLJ had a few opportunities to break the deadlock in the first half but were denied by the Harriers' goalkeeper on a number of occasions.

The Jets changed formation in the second half from 4-1-4-1 to a standard 4-4-2 which led to them dominating the half and threatening the Harriers goal throughout. Raphael de Beck Spitzer came close to the game's opener within five minutes of the restart, but struck the ball over the bar.

David Amor and Akiva Restan also came close, but it was not until the final minutes of the match when de Beck Spitzer snatched the crucial winner after latching onto a pass from Restan to slot the ball into the bottom corner of the net.

With 30 seconds remaining, NWLJ resorted to defensive tactics, swapping some of their more attack-minded players for defenders in order to see out the win and clinch the League title.

The Jets followed their League triumph with a quarter-final victory against HMH Eilat with a 2-1 win on penalties after drawing 1-1 during normal time.

The Jets opened the scoring through an incredible strike from Matti Karp, but Eilat responded five minutes before the end of the match to take the game to a penalty shoot-out.
