Two stage wins in two different tours in two continents in just five days marked a successful and busy time for Israel’s Cycling Academy Team of young professional riders
Fresh from his stage win in Baku, Azerbaidjan, Dan Turek, 22, took the Yellow Jersey in Stage one of the three-day,four-stage Tour de Berlin, ably assisted by Israel’s Guy Gabay.
Making his characteristic early attack, Turek rode alone for 20km. of the 12 lap, 135km. circuit in the outskirts of Berlin before awaiting the chasing peloton. Gabay launched an attack immediately rejoining, leaving Turek to shelter in the bunch until he was ready for his second break away, this time with five others. They stayed away with Turek sprinting to win and take the Yellow Jersey and Points lead.
Stage two was a short Individual timetTrial (21.4Km) with four of the original five members riding, before going straight into Stage Three. Ben Einhorn was best-placed Israeli just ahead of Guy Gabay, with Turek and Talagar all finishing in the mass bunched sprint for the finish.
Although losing the Yellow Jersey, the team placed 15th in the final G.C. over the 414km. international race.
