COUNTY SUNDAY CUP
SHOULDER NORTHOWRAM 3 LEEDS MACCABI 1st 4
Two goals from new signing Max Helgot helped Leeds Maccabi move into the second round of the County Sunday Cup with a 4-3 away win against Shoulder Northowram.
Maccabi took full advantage of the sloping pitch and opened the scoring within the first minute following an own goal from the home side who played in the Halifax Sunday Football League.
Soon after Helgot, making his Senior first team debut, grabbed himself a brace, making the score 3-0 within the first 20 minutes.
This should have been the start of a goal fest for Leeds, but instead it was Shoulder who cleared their heads and started to put Maccabi under pressure with some direct attacking play which led to them clawing their way back into the game.
Their persistence paid off and Leeds started to feel the pressure and conceded two goals in fairly quick succession to finish the first half with the score at 3-2.
Leeds Maccabi started the second half much better than they had finished the first half and were starting to take control by winning the midfield battles, with the influential Oshri Amar not letting much get past him. Dan Ross was also superb at the heart of the Leeds defence, clearing everything that was thrown at him with a man-of-the-match performance.
Adam Gilman then converted from the penalty spot to make it 4-2 and in effect, ending the tie with 10 minutes remaining.
Shoulder then pulled another goal back with literally the last kick of the game with the game ending 4-3, which to be fair, was somewhat flattering to the home team as Leeds Maccabi had most of the possession and were in control for most of the game.
