Eli Guttman insists he will not fall for Bosnian mind games ahead of Israel’s Euro 2016 qualifier on Sunday.
A sell-out crowd will greet an injury-hit Bosnia & Herzegovina for the first-ever international at the Sammy Ofer stadium in Haifa.
Israel lies second in Group B following victories against Cyprus and Andorra, and their chances of maintaining their 100 per cent record have been boosted by the absence of Bosnia striker Edin Dzeko.
Without their talismanic captain and top-scorer, Bosnia manager Safet Susic said: “We will be resigned to playing for a draw against Israel because we have no hope of winning without him.”
But Guttman is taking nothing for granted against a “technical” team he says will provide “a big test”.
He said: “It’s true Dzeko is irreplaceable, but they’ll still have players from Hamburg, Lazio, Everton and a list of other top teams, so we expect a tough match.
"But we are a strong, cohesive team and we go into this game confident that the fans will be smiling after the match on Sunday."
Israel’s top stars go into the match in fine form. Bibras Natkho set up both goals in CSKA Moscow’s Champions League victory against Manchester City, while Lior Refaelov staked a claim for a place after scoring a hat-trick in Club Brugge’s 4-0 victory over Copenhagen in the Europa League.
Omer Damari and Tal Ben Haim have been in commanding form for their clubs, while Ofir Martziano appears to have cemented the no. 1 jersey following impressive performances in his first two international matches.
Guttman has resisted calls to drop Maccabi Tel Aviv midfielder Eran Zehavi following his altercation with a spectator in last week’s derby.
Zehavi criticised the Israel FA for “failing to support him” when he was sent off for retaliating against the fan who attacked him.
"Zehavi understands he made a mistake and time will tell whether he can put this episode behind him,” said Guttman.
Meanwhile, the IFA Disciplinary Court has punished both Maccabi Tel Aviv and Hapoel Tel Aviv with a two-point deduction following the abandoned derby.
The match will be recorded as a 0-0 draw with neither side getting any points. Both teams plan to appeal.
