Team GB footballer Scott Shulton is joining Blue Square Premier Ebbsfleet United.
A star of the recently concluded Maccabiah Games, Shulton, 19, was set to sign a one-year contract yesterday, after being released by Wycombe Wanderers. He was at Wycombe for seven years following a two-year spell at Watford.
Shulton said: “I see it as a step across rather than down as I will have more of a chance to get regular first-team action. I wanted to stay in full-time football and want to keep improving every day.
“Ebbsfleet is a club that likes to bring the young players through. They have a great pitch and a manager who likes his team to get the ball down and play.”
Nicknamed Jaffa, because of his love for Jaffa Cake biscuits, the midfielder from Mill Hill is looking forward to tomorrow’s first league match of the new season at Altrincham.
“There are some big teams in the Conference,” he said. “Most of the clubs are full time so to be part of it, playing against players who are coming out of the Football League will give me a chance to keep improving.”
Looking back on his experience in Israel, Shulton said: “The Maccabiah was a great experience and I’ve come into pre-season fighting fit. To reach the final was a great achievement but we were gutted not to get gold.”
GB teammate Guy Helman has joined Potters Bar Town, managed by Adam Lee. Harlow Town have snapped up former Wingate & Finchley keeper Nathanel Elraz.
