Yuri Foreman's hopes of becoming a world champion again are in tatters after he suffered a shattering defeat in his comeback fight against Pawel Wolak at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas.
Foreman, having his first fight since undergoing knee ligament surgery after losing his WBA world light-middleweight title to Miguel Cotto on a ninth-round stoppage last June, was taking such a beating that his corner refused to let him come out for the seventh round.
It was Foreman's second defeat in a 30-fight career while Polish-born Wolak, who carried too much punching power for the 30-year-old Belarus-born trainee rabbi, recorded his 29th win from 30 fights.
Wolak stalked New York-based Foreman from the opening bell, subjecting him to a series of combinations and clubbing right-hand punches.
Foreman said: "I didn't feel like myself tonight. From the long lay-off, I didn't feel sharp. I felt mushy."
Meanwhile, Brooklyn-based Dmitriy Salita will have home advantage when he fights Jermain White, from Illinois, at his local Oceana Ballroom in a 10-round welterweight fight on April 13.
Salita, whose promotional company are staging the show, has lost only one of his 34 fights - his one-round destruction by Amir Khan when he challenged for the WBA world title in Newcastle - while White has 17 wins, including nine inside the distance, from 21 fights.
