I’ve never been one to do things by halves and when I put my mind to something, I give it 110 per cent focus and commitment. I recently decided to start a get fit (again) campaign and am well on the road to recovery.
In week nine of detox, I’ve lost just over two and a half stone since cutting out the comfort foods I’ve been consuming since depression set in over missing the cut for the Great Britain Maccabiah cricket team.
I found that I’d hit a brick wall in my efforts to get fit, until now that is. Losing weight has never been easier as the pounds have been falling off while I’ve been standing still.
My friends at Movers & Shapers in Stanmore recently introduced me to the power plate -– a vibrating stand that works and massages your muscles, which is perfect for my condition, providing the equivalent of a 90-minute weights workout in just 25 minutes.
The results are amazing. With anniversaries, birthdays and Friday nights coming thick and fast at this time of year, I have been eating out fairly often and fallen in love with sushi. But with people starting to ask questions about why my trousers are continuously falling around my ankles, I thought now was the time to let the cat out of the bag.
Legendary British athlete Roger Bruck told me of his disappointment about the lack of importance behind his sport at the Jewish Olympics. He said: “Track and field is now relegated to a couple of half days without any minimum standard for entry.
“Some Mickey Mouse events take precedence. What makes it even sadder is that GB has some very accomplished athletes who don’t even both to enter as the standard is so abysmal. This is what makes the Maccabiah so pitiful.”
The JC MSFL has a new fan after Baldon Sports, London FA Sunday Challenge Cup finalists, paid it a huge complement. Having beaten London Maccabi Lions A and North West Neasden A in the competition this season, secretary Marc Dolby said: “Your league is well run and respected. It’s absolutely superb.”
Delighted with the pat on the back, Maccabi League chief David Wolff commented: “This confirms the importance of the league entering teams into the competition from a PR point of view and proves how well we’re is regarded outside of our own community.”
Zig Zag made two signings before Monday’s transfer deadline.
Defender Alex Searle joined from non-Jewish football while Joel Winton rejoins the club from South Manx. He was the team’s top-scorer two years ago with 15 goals. Zeds boss Neal Cohen said: “His heart is Zig Zag as is his brother, Grant, and cousins, Jonny and Richard, and we welcome him home. He will be available for the last three games.”
Glasgow Maccabi and Glenthorne United A have rescheduled their fourth round Peter Morrison Trophy tie for April 19. The original contest was abandoned after 80 minutes due to the referee feeling unwell.
Two big cup games on Sunday see Faithfold A tackle Neasden A in the Morrison with London Maccabi Lions A hosts Chigwell Athletic A.
There are also top two-of-the-table clashes in the Maccabi League. Southgate Harmen A will look to preserve their five-point advantage over North West Neasden C in Division Two. One team will go clear in Division Four as joint-leaders Woodford Wanderers and East London Knights battle it out. ELK have been dealt a blow as Craig Edwards is out for the season.
