Dean Furman has suffered disappointment after failing to win a contract with Blackburn Rovers.
The South Africa midfielder had been on trial with the Championship club.
But Furman, a free agent after leaving Doncaster at the end of last season, has been told he will not be offered a deal at Ewood Park.
Furman scored in a pre-season friendly at Accrington and was invited to the a warm-weather training camp in Portugal.
But Furman, along with fellow triallist Giles Coke, will remain without a club for now due to the Blackburn's financial constraints.
Blackburn manager Gary Bowyer said: "Unfortunately they've been with us and obviously we had to come to a decision.
"We've made the decision not to go with either of them due to the restrictions that we're under.
"They're very similar to players that we already have but the pair of them have been fantastic.
"If the circumstances had been different for us then it might have been different for them."
