Anniversary match goes with form

articlemain

Keith Aizen and Adam Jacobs were the star performers as a Belmont & Edgware team of current players claimed a six-wicket success in a commemorative match to mark the club's 40th anniversary.

Belmont & Edgware "past" were soon in trouble as Aizen caused problems with his left-arm spin at Old Lyonians. He accounted for Clifford Horowitz who fell to an outstanding diving catch by Steven Altmann-Richer.

Aizen also dismissed Jonathan Feigenbaum and Jeremy Freeman before Phil Ellis added some quickfire runs, including a giant six. His knock ended when he blasted one straight to Noam Attar off Adam Jacobs.

David Kay marked his first appearance for the club in three years with a three-wicket haul, while Saleh returned to take the final wicket.

A target of 115 was always within reach for BECC Present, although they suffered an early scare when Stuart Davis removed Michael Blasebalk. Harvey Samuels and Altmann-Richer added some valuable runs before a 35-run partnership between Jason Mann and Jacobs was halted by Feigenbaum.

It was left to Aizen and Jacobs to score the necessary 30 runs to steer the Present XI home. Aizen was at his brutal best – hitting a six in a quickfire 25, while Jacobs finished unbeaten on 29.

BECC's Ryan Monk said: "This was a wonderful way to commemorate the 40th anniversary of the club, with many enjoying the nostalgia of the occasion.

"Amidst demands by numerous Select XI players for a more regular fixture, perhaps some may wish to rediscover former glories and occasionally turn out for the current side."

MAL made it four out of four in the Middlesex Sunday League with an 88-run victory over West Harrow in Division Two.

Ami Wynbourne and Warren Averbuch top-scored with respective knocks of 44 as MAL posted 188. They looked in trouble at 147-7 until Guv Lebens joined Binny Feinmesser added a further 30 runs.

Harrow could not cope with the pace of Yoav Lebens as their reply faltered.
