MGBSFL DIVISION THREE
NORSTAR LONDON RAIDERS C 1 AC WHETSTONE 1
Aaron Benjamin earned AC Whetstone their first-ever point in the MGBSFL following a 1-1 draw at Raiders C.
Benjamin put the visitors ahead and then they battled hard to protect their lead.
Norstar equalised when a cushioned header was volleyed home from 40 yards by Oli Nathan, who spotted the keeper well off his line - a fine goal that will struggle to be beaten for a while.
Norstar created several chances and will feel that on another day they would have easily wrapped up all three points.
NLR boss Zack Gotholf told JC Sport: "We didn't play as well as we could have done and we know that, but we can take a lot of satisfaction from the fact that we didn't lose, something we certainly would have done last season.
"We're not far from being where we want to be, our defence looks solid and we've got some real talent up top and through the middle - once it all clicks into place I'm in no doubt we'll start winning a lot of games.
"All credit to AC Whetstone, they are an extremely well organised outfit and will do much better than people might think this season."
Whetstone boss Clive Nathan told JC Sport: "We showed what we are all about today - real commitment and effort that earned us the right to play some great passing football. The whole squad was aged 16 and to see them get their first point in senior football was a proud moment for everyone involved.
"This was a proper football match and thanks to Zak Gothelf for having his team play in the right spirit."
