North London style hounds will be in fashion heaven with the latest shops opening this summer at Brent Cross Shopping Centre in NW4.

Whistles, the sharply on-trend chain for the glossy posse whose budget won't quite stretch to Bond Street or Sloane Street, opened a stand-alone shop last month. Its arrival was perfect for tempting shoppers with its sublime A/W collection featuring boyishly cut, narrow-lapel overcoats, pure 1970s mid-calf skirts, low-key shirt dresses, 60s shifts and the chain's trademark leather biker jackets.

Jaeger, which under MD Harold Tillman and designer Stuart Stockdale, has managed to reinvent itself as a hugely desirable and directional brand, opened on August 4. Its directional A/W womenswear collection includes cleverly wearable interpretations of the season's key trends which include the 60s, mannish tailoring, maxi coats and jewel colours, while its much edgier (and often shorter) Boutique Collection should be first stop for Yomtov/workwear for everyone under 35.

And as if that wasn't enough temptation, Kurt Geiger is now displaying its foot-candy in a 618-sq ft store which opened at the end of July, showcasing its eponymous brand, Kurt Geiger London, plus Carvela and diffusion collection KG. Autumn offerings include very 1960s pointed-toe courts with towering stiletto and mid-height heels, mannish Chelsea boots and brogues, 70s platforms and neon-bright suede and adorable leopard print loafers.

And while music downloads and the Kindle revolution have contributed to the shrinkage of WH Smith's Brent Cross store from two storeys to one, the downsizing provides more good news for stylistas, because in its place All Saints has emerged, with its complex knits, desirable leather and often overlooked glittery-but-good-taste little cocktail frocks.
