I've never been a big fan of bank accounts that charge you up to £25 a month just to have them. Yet, in some cases, the additional travel, mobile and breakdown cover they give offers real benefits. However, many people have these, thinking they're covered, but are being sadly let down.
While some banks will automatically activate the services for you, many perks and insurance policies aren't valid until you specifically register for them so, if you have a problem, you're not covered.
Quite simply: if you are paying, check right now whether your insurance and other benefits are active. While you're at it, work out if it's really worth it. Calculate your annual, not monthly, cost and compare that to the cheapest stand-alone insurance policies.
