US choice of buyer for Wembley shul is baffling

Our community faces many challenges, not the least of which is a rise in antisemitism among Islamist extremists. We have — to be blunt — a number of potent enemies.

Yet the United Synagogue, one of the core institutions of Anglo-Jewry, a body which many think of as being the very essence of our community, has seen fit to sell the site of the former Wembley synagogue to an Islamic group whose founder demanded not only that devout Muslims boycott Jewish goods but that they avoid all “imitations of the Jews”.

Indeed, as part of the sale process, Dawat-e-Islami’s UK branch circulated a leaflet among its supporters which described the synagogue as “a former place of worship for non-believers”.

The US said it had carried out due diligence, but this only makes the decision to sell more baffling.

Could it really be true that the US knew exactly what it was doing in deciding to sell a synagogue to Dawat-e-Islami?

NEU’s links to terror supporters will surprise precisely no one

The National Education Union has long been a byword for hard-left politics. Thus, as night follows day, the revelation of its close ties with Palestinian terror supporters will surprise no one.

In funding the General Union of Palestinian Teachers (GUPT) it is supporting an organisation whose leaders have held meetings with terror groups such as the the Al Aqsa Martyrs Brigade and praised those behind murderous attacks on Israel as “martyrs”.

In recent years, hundreds of Jewish teachers are thought to have left the union over its attitude to Israel. Far from seeking to encourage their return, the NEU has since sunk even deeper into the hard-left abyss.

These are the ideologues that brought the nation’s schools to a halt this week.
