Over the coming days, Jewish communities across Britain and around the world are preparing for Rosh Hashanah. You have my warmest good wishes for a happy, peaceful and healthy New Year.
Rosh Hashanah, followed by Yom Kippur, is a time of solemn reflection. But it’s also a time to spend with friends and families. As is custom, my family and I will also mark the day.
But this year we are very aware that for many in the Jewish community, and indeed across the country, the cost of living is also on people's minds. The uncertainty of energy bills; that it's costing more to fill the car with petrol; and food prices seemingly going up every week.
In these difficult times, the spirit of volunteerism and chesed remains the hallmark of the Jewish community. I’ve been lucky enough to see this throughout the year during many events with communities up and down the country. This Rosh Hashanah I know that the unity and friendship that I've witnessed will bring you peace.
As we prepare for this celebration, I’ve been reflecting on my last year. I'm grateful to have strengthened my ties and deepened my relationships with Britain’s Jewish community. I'm proud that the Labour Party has continued to make strides in tackling antisemitism in all forms. I remain as committed to my promise now, as I was when I took over the leadership.
Thank you for all you are doing to work with us.
As we enter the solemn days of Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur, may you all be inscribed in the Book of Life.
