The top 10 participants’ comments at Limmud

December 27, 2012 13:59

The best thing about Limmud is not the presenters, or the sessions they give, it’s the questions the participants ask afterwards, what they say later on in the bar or let slip over breakfast. Here are my favourites so far:

1) Over breakfast: “Did you go to the rebbetzin’s disco?”

2) A nine year old at lunch to a YAD with a Jewfro: “But you said we could stick forks in your hair?”

3) When the audience is asked for questions: “I don’t have a question, I have a comment.”

4) At a textual reasoning session: “Matisyahu is a really weird bloke, isn’t he?”

5) In a discussion about whether anonymous charitable giving is a higher form of giving to be preferred, or if plaques/ commemorations are acceptable: “But plaques are VITAL!”

6) In the main Rootes bar: “Don’t hit Limmud too hard.”

7) “Yeah, I’ve mostly been doing the Jew stuff.”

8) Two teenage girls, to me: “We thought you were brilliant in Strictly last night!” [Thanks girls!]

9) “Do you have any idea what Y-Love is saying?” “Nope.”

10) “Ooh look, that man has a ukulele, let’s go to what he’s going to!”
