Obama, darling of the European left, has now won the Nobel Peace Prize for sounding good.
There are two ironies here. First, that the prize comes precisely at the point where the American public and media is beginning to turn against him. Last week, Saturday Night Live - which has brought down previous presidents and presidential candidates such as Sarah Palin - skewered Obama for having accomplished precisely nothing. Until recently, he was considered 'unlaughable at', but now the comedians smell blood, he is in real trouble. I am willing to bet that his Nobel Prize will be greeted with jokes about his inflated ego (poor Michelle, he will really be insufferable now), not with awe.
Second, the prize comes at precisely the point at which the West is beginning to turn against him, precisely on the nuclear issue. Just last week at the United Nations, the French (in particular) and other Europeans were furious with Obama for delaying the announcement of Iran's nuclear facility in Qom so that he could pontificate about his vision of a nuclear free world - in other words, delaying real action on Iran in order to give another (self-serving) grand speech. Even his own Democratic party seems increasingly worried that Iran will go nuclear on Obama's watch - not because it is inevitable, but because he will let it. In the best case scenario, he seems quite relaxed about letting poor Israel do his dirty work for him, by attacking Iran, barely earning even American backing.
This is not a man who is serious about preventing nuclear proliferation. Shame on him, and shame on the Nobel committee.
