Norman Mailer

I met Norman Mailer once. More than that, he came to my book launch. It's not much of a story, but here it is anyway.

A Class Act, the book I wrote with Andrew Adonis, was published in 1997. We held the book launch in Soho, at a very 'media' venue. Our launch party was scheduled to start at 7pm. When I turned up a few minutes early, I was surprised to see a number of people there already, but I only recognised one of them. That person was, I thought bizarrely, Norman Mailer.

It turned out that there had been some sort of reception that afternoon in honour of Mailer, and he had remained in situ long after his own party had ended. And he remained in situ after my own party began. So I was able, quite legitimately, to boast that Norman Mailer had been to my book launch.

Well, I enjoyed it at the time.

Meanwhile... we are on our way home now from Australia and, for the past two days, Singapore. Normal posting should start again on Monday.
