Last week, the JC’s veteran Los Angeles correspondent, Tom Tugend, was honoured by France for his heroics while fighting against SS units in Alsace. Tom went on to serve as a volunteer for the Machal during Israel’s War of Independence and fought for the US Army in the Korean War. At the grand old age of 90, he continues to write razor-sharp copy about the latest Hollywood films and the Jews who help make them. Asked recently if he had time to do an interview, he replied: “Sorry, I’m too busy writing an autobiography for my grandchildren.” Give the man an Oscar.
