The decision of Borehamwood Synagogue not to allow the barmitzvah of the son of fraudster Dan Jacobs to take place within the synagogue is vindictive and cruel. Jacobs’s son has committed no crime. The synagogue authorities claim “logistical reasons” are behind the decision. That is sophistry. For the rest of his life, the young man will remember that, on a day that should be a great celebration, he was consigned to a shul hall because his father is a crook. Borehamwood should show some heart.
