Just What Does It Take?

February 20, 2011 17:33

Just what does it take to galvanise our head-in-the-sand leadership into action?

Today I asked the following question of Mr Vivian Wineman who heads the Board of Deputies and the Jewish Leadership Council:

Ron Prosor recently wrote: 'Never has a British broadsheet so openly served the agenda of Middle Eastern extremism. The Guardian must be commended for its transparency -- readers can no longer doubt its affinity for Hamas.' Will you now call on the community to shun the Guardian, including withdrawing advertising?

The answer (transcribed by me so may not be word-for-word accurate, but there will be an 'official' transcript which I will post here) was:

We don't support boycotts. Deputies can be trusted to choose their news sources acccordingly

Just look again at how The Guardian has used the "Palestine Papers" to vilify Israel, not to mention years of previous offences:

Mr Wineman's limp-wristed response will be taken by Rusbridger, Milne, Freedland and Co to mean that they can vilify and lie about Israel as much as they want - without major commercial consequences. By contrast imagine what would happen to The Guardian's revenues, were it to publish a few cartoons about a certain Prophet ...

Memo to Australia's Jewish Community: Can you please lend us a few genuine strong leaders?
