Nazis to appeal against gaol sentences
Colin Jordan, the leader of the National Socialist Movement and Commander of its Spearhead section, who was sentenced to nine months imprisonment at the Central Criminal Court on Monday, is to appeal against his conviction. He and three other Nazis were found guilty on two charges of organising and equipping the Spearhead movement in such a way as to arouse reasonable apprehension that it was being organised for the purpose of using or displaying force in promoting a political object….Before being sentenced Jordan said: "It has always been our intention to work within the framework of the Public Order Act and if it be judged that we have stepped outside it, it has been -done entirely unin tentionally. We have done what we have with the idea of forming a group of young people to free Britain from Jewish control. Whatever happens, the National Socialist Movement throughout the world will march on.”…Told by counsel that the S.A. were described as ruffians and bullies, Jordan replied that this was a description used by the Jews. He said that Julius Streicher's picture was on the wall at headquarters because " we have a lot of walls and we wanted to put something on them.”
Jordan lost his appeal. Julius Streicher was the publisher of Der Sturmer, the German antisemitic newspaper.
Peace-lovers at war
All the five Hon. Officers and the entire Board of Management of the Ahavath Shalom (Love of Peace) the Federation of Synagogues congregation at Gladstone Park, resigned on Monday over a dispute with their minister the Rev I Landau. The sudden resignations left the congregation of some 420 members without any lay leadership in the middle of Succot. When I asked members of the Board of Management what would happen now, they said they did not know. There was no comment available from the minister. He even refused to give the name of the President or the Wardens.“This is a Federation Synagogue,” Mr. Landau told me. "Everybody is a President and a Warden here.”
