How many tropes about Jews can you fit into a single tweet? This is an impressive effort from Janine di Giovanni.
Let's count them:
1. Jews must first address and erase their own moral failings before they have a right to be heard.
2. Jews' moral failings occur because they do not "look in their hearts". This is why they lack compassion and mercy. A particularly Christian trope, this one.
3. Jews must declare their position on Israel/Palestine before they can express an opinion on an unrelated issue. And of course it must be the correct position, as determined by the person asking the question. Only Jews are set this political test on this issue.
4. "The Jewish community"... "their government". Is this an assumption that US Jews have the power to force the US government to (in turn) force the Israeli government to end the occupation? Or does it mean the Israeli government is "their government"? Read it however you want.
5. "Equally". This is an article about a genocide. The only thing equal to a genocide is another genocide.
