Halloumi fries are the instant crowd-pleaser that often most of the crowd didn’t know they wanted. You need only five ingredients to make them and, best of all, you can easily cook them in the oven or air fryer, which means there’s no need to deep-fry.

Method:

  • Preheat your oven to 200°C fan/220°C. Lightly grease a baking sheet and line with non-stick baking parchment.

  • Put the eggs in a medium bowl. Put the breadcrumbs, smoked paprika and cayenne pepper in another bowl and mix.

  • Place half the halloumi fries into the egg and mix around until well-coated, then transfer to the breadcrumb bowl and mix around until completely coated on all sides – don’t forget the ends too.

  • Transfer to the prepared baking sheet and repeat with the remaining halloumi fries.

  • Bake in the oven for 10 minutes, or until the breadcrumbs are golden and the fries are slightly squidgy.

  • Serve with the sweet chilli sauce as a dip. These are best enjoyed warm, so if not serving straight away, keep them warm in a low oven and ideally serve on a hot plate.

  • To cook in an air fryer: Preheat the air fryer to 200°C (400°F) and spray a little oil into the tray.

  • Place as many halloumi fries in the air fryer basket as will fit without touching, then generously spray with oil. Cook for 10 minutes, or until the breadcrumbs are golden and crispy.
