The sudden death of trade union leader Bob Crow brought tributes from supporters of both Israel and the Palestinians.
Mr Crow, who was leader of the RMT union, had in the past been criticised for anti-Zionist tendencies.
Last year, he encouraged Uefa, Europe’s football governing body, to drop Israel as the host of the under-21 European Championships.
But Mr Crow, who was 52 and died on Monday evening, had also won praise for his efforts on behalf of Israeli unionists.
Trade Union Friends of Israel said it was saddened by his death. Roger Lyons, Tufi chair, said: “Bob played a huge role in British trade unionism and he was an active supporter of global trade union solidarity.
“He was a friend of the Histadrut and in particular the Israeli dock workers, who he supported in their struggle.”
There were equally warm words from the Palestine Solidarity Committee, a group Mr Crow had regularly supported.
