Hasmonean Girls’ School head Rachel Fink was among six Hasmonean delegates. Taking studious notes throughout, she said the seminar had inspired her to rethink the school’s “enrichment programme before year nine students go to Poland. We could look at a preparatory programme as we can’t just rely on students to conduct their own research.

“We have to get the balance right before we implement a new programme as 30-to-50 per cent of Hasmonean lessons are Jewish studies.

“We don’t want our students saturated with material but we also need them to realise the significance of the Holocaust.

“I’ve brought two non-Jewish teachers with me [Chris Bailey and Amit Kalley, who take history and politics]. When they teach the Holocaust they’ll now have greater sensitivity and understanding into who we are.”
