The head of the Israeli security service has warned that the flow of explosives and weapons into Gaza has continued during Israel’s offensive in Gaza.
Shin Bet head Yuval Diskin confirmed 22 tonnes of explosives, plus rockets, anti-tank missiles and mortar shells had been smuggled into Gaza, despite Egyptian efforts to halt the flow of illegal weapons.
The weapons are known to be smuggled through tunnels under the Egyptian border.
Mr Diskin, who gave his report to the Israeli cabinet on Sunday, said the number of rocket attacks on Israeli was decreasing.
He said Hamas had arrested members of groups carrying out attacks.
Halting weapons smuggling has been central to the Israeli demands in the ceasefire negotiated between Israel and Hamas.
Israel has previously pressured powers in the US, Europe and Egypt to step up attempts to stop the smuggling.
