Yavneh College in Hertfordshire has instituted additional anti-Covid measures owing to rising levels of infection in the school.

The number of cases led the school formally to declare an “outbreak”, executive headteacher Spencer Lewis told parents last week.

“We are seeing the highest case numbers currently in Year 7, however we currently have active cases in all year groups,” he said.

“Due to the number of cases, we have reached the outbreak threshold and therefore we must put in additional mitigation measures such as no assemblies for year 7 and designated seating for year 7 during lunchtime.”

Mr Lewis told the JC that there were not many staff at home with Covid, but “this could easily change”.

According to the BBC, around one in 12 staff in English schools were absent owing to Covid.

Debbie Lebrett, headteacher of Hasmonean High School for Boys in Hendon, said on Tuesday that there was a number of pupils and staff off, but added: “We are managing to run the school as normal”.
